I've been doing my best to be creative with my foods, adding flavors I don't normally cook with. So far I have been successful. Citrus is in season now and I love grapefruit. I normally eat it as just a fruit at breakfast. Well, while perusing Pinterest, I saw that the Pioneer Woman pinned a salad with grapefruit and kale. I'm a big fan of kale, but don't particularly care to eat it raw. It has a rough texture, so not my favorite to eat as a salad. (I prefer using it soups where it will hold up to soaking in liquid for a long time.) Today I made a similar version to this salad. I had arugula, grapefruit, and crumbled feta and made this beauty.

Cooking with What's in the House
Prior to the holidays, my husband and I made a commitment to each other that we are going to pay down our debt. Like many other Americans, we have a lot, but we are now working on fixing this. Paying down our debt means we are adjusting our lifestyle a bit. We were never ones to really go out a lot, but we would, and when you tally up the cost per month, it was several hundred dollars. Additionally, since I am the one that does the food shopping, I have to really budget my spending. Many times I would just buy things because they are on sale, not necessarily something we needed because we were out. Well that is stopping and I'm working on creating easy meals based on what is in our home already.
When I originally thought of this dinner, I was going to do a tomato based chicken and pasta dish (which is what we'd always have), but when I opened the pantry and saw a jar of Classico light alfredo sauce, I came up with something else. I knew I had Boar's Head deli ham in the fridge and half a bag of Trader Joe's frozen peas in the freezer. So I created my own version of chicken carbonara and it was delicious!
I had 2 boneless chicken breasts already defrosted in the fridge. I cut them up into bite size pieces and seasoned them with salt and pepper. (Remember, do not use a wood cutting board when cutting up raw meats!) I had a skillet on the stove on medium heat with some olive oil in the pan and added the chicken to get it cooking.
On a separate burner, I had the water going in a pot to boil so I could add the Barilla fettuccine. Once the chicken had no pink visible on the outside, I added the peas and chopped ham and let that cook for a few minutes. Then I added the jar of sauce.
I lowered the heat on the pan and let the chicken mixture simmer until the pasta was finished. I drained the pasta then added it to the chicken mixture and stirred it together. It was such a tasty dish!

Happy New Year!
We've already enjoyed five days of 2014 and here in Long Island, we had our first blizzard. We got about 11" in my area, but it was that really soft fluffy snow so it was easy to shovel.
It's been frigid to say the least so I have been spending a lot of time in the kitchen. I go back to work tomorrow so I started my freezer meals over the break. Some of my favorites are ones I can throw in the slow cooker. All of the ingredients are raw and put into a ziplock. I made several chicken and beef dishes. These will be great on these cold winter days!
On our snow day, I wanted to turn the oven on for breakfast. I wasn't in the mood for eggs so I scoured Pinterest for ideas and found cinnamon buns! I had all of the ingredients so I went to work. My ingredients:
1 can of crescent rolls (I used reduced fat Pillsbury)
1/3 cup of brown sugar
2 T of butter (melted)
2 t of cinnamon
I preheated the oven to the temp listed on the dough container. I opened up the dough and rolled it out onto a cutting board. I pinched together all the perforated seams. In a bowl, I mixed together the butter, sugar and cinnamon, then spread it across the dough. I rolled the dough into a tube with the cinnamon sugar mixture on the inside. Using a sharp knife, I sliced the dough into 8 pieces. In a greased dish, I arranged the sliced dough and placed it in the oven.
The buns baked for about 14 minutes. I let them cool a few minutes before using a spatula to remove the buns. I decided not to ice the buns and keep it a little lighter. They were delicious and sweet enough on their own!

Roasted Tomato Bruschetta
My family went out to lunch the other day and one of our appetizers was bruschetta. I haven't had that in awhile and it was so good. I love the taste of fresh tomatoes, basil and red onion. Such a great treat in the summer when tomatoes are in season! This morning I was preparing some freezer meals and saw the pint of grape tomatoes in my fridge. I had originally bought them with the intention of making a pasta dish, but that didn't happen and they were starting to go bad. I thought about the bruschetta and thought that would be a tasty treat. Since tomatoes aren't really in season now, I decided to roast them. This is how I prepared this tasty treaty.
I emptied the pint onto a baking sheet and preheated the oven to 400 degrees. I drizzled extra virgin olive oil over the tomatoes and seasoned with salt and pepper. I tossed them around on the sheet to get an even coat and placed it in the oven.
I let them roast for about 20 minutes.
I let them cool so that I can handle them with my fingers. I chopped them up and put them in a bowl. I then diced a quarter of a red onion.
I tossed that in the bowl with the tomatoes and added a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I added some dried basil and mixed everything together.
I let it sit in the fridge for several hours so all the flavors could meld together. When snack time rolled around, I took a slice of thin bread and brushed it with olive oil and put it in the toaster oven to brown it and make it crisp. I cut the bread into 3 pieces. I sliced 2 thin slices of Bel Gioso fresh mozzarella and placed them onto the bread. I then put a heaping spoonful on top of each piece. What a delightful snack!

Freezer Meal: Lasagna
As any working mom will tell you, there is never enough time in the day to get a good dinner on the table at a decent hour. For the 2+ years, I always did a bulk cooking day. This always helped with dinner during the week since all that was needed was to heat up. This cooking day would also take hours every Sunday. It got tiresome since I was literally wasting hours each week, preparing meals. I knew there had to be an easier way. I discovered freezer meals on Pinterest. This has really changed things for me. Instead of taking several hours a week, I only spend a few hours a month preparing meals that I just throw in the freezer. And best of all, I am not cooking! It's all raw ingredients that are tossed into a ziplock and put in the freezer. The day we will have that meal, I take it out of the freezer and put it in the fridge to defrost. My husband will dump the contents of the bag into a baking dish and pop it in the oven. Voila, done when I am finished work. Slow cooker dinners get put in the fridge for defrosting the night before. In the morning, I set up the slow cooker, empty the bag contents, set the time and let it go. Delicious hot dinner ready at a decent hour.
I am currently on my holiday break, so have some free time to do some freezer meals. One of my favorites is lasagna. This isn't something I prepared with the raw ingredients and froze because I didn't have the space to store the entire pan size dish. I baked it, and when it cooled, cut it into 3 large portions. Remember, it's only 2 adults and a toddler eating so we don't need that much!
Here is how I prepared it. I preheated the oven to 350 degrees. My ingredients:
1lb. Mozzarella, shredded
16 oz. ricotta
2 eggs
4 cups of tomato sauce (I used my own homemade sauce)
Salt
Pepper
2 boxes of no cook lasagna noodles, like Barilla
In a large bowl, mix the ricotta and eggs together. Add about 2 tsp of salt and half tsp of pepper and mix. Taste it to make sure it is seasoned. (Remember you can always add more to season, so start off with a little bit!)
Next, take a roasting pan and spread a thin layer of sauce to the bottom. You don't want to put the noodles directly on the bottom of the pan or they will stick. Place a layer of noodles on top of the sauce.
Layer some ricotta mixture on top of the noodles and add a handful of shredded cheese. (I like to have the mozzarella as a layer in the middle of the lasagna.
Add sauce to this layer. Then more noodles, ricotta mixture and sauce. Your final layer should go noodles, sauce, the remainder of the mozzarella.
Cover with foil and bake for about 45-50 mins. Remove foil and continue to bake another 10-15 minutes so the cheese browns and the top layer is a little crispy. It should look like this perfect, mouth watering dish when it is done.
If you plan to eat it that night, let it cool for about 5-7 minutes to let juices settle. I also love adding more sauce to the top of my individual piece. Dig in and enjoy!

First trip away
Today begins the first trip I will be away from my daughter. I have to say I am not nervous about how she will be. I just have this overwhelming wanting to just stay with her. I know the first time is always the hardest. I'm sure many parents that travel feel this way all the time. I just have to keep saying to myself that I get to sleep in tomorrow and have no one to focus on but myself I will be able to do face time with her and will be back Tuesday, so I am only two full days away from her. Hopefully I don't burst into tears!

Clothes purging
Every few months I purge my closet and dressers. I went to NY & Company during lunch and picked up a few tops and a dress. I went to hang them up and realized my clothes were so scattered in my closet. I began pulling out some things I haven't worn and organizing what I had hanging. When I finished, I had pulled out over 25 items! Next I went to my drawers and pulled out more stuff. Now I have space for new clothes and a nice big bag of clothes to donate!

Happy March!
I'm so glad to see we only have a few more weeks left of winter. I think we did pretty well this year so far with not much snow. We did have a stint of freezing temps, but overall we made out well. Hopefully Spring will be here soon and we'll really get to enjoy it!
This is a big month for us. Our little lovebug turns 6 months tomorrow. I can't believe how fast time has flown! She amazes me more and more each day.
I will be travelling for work this month, my first time away from my family. I know I will be okay and will miss her like crazy. It's a short trip and I'm on the east coast so won't be too bad. I am looking forward to sleeping in a bit though, at least for one morning!
With March I've created some new goals to achieve. Last month I wanted to incorporate a fitness schedule and began using one that was focused on Abs. While it would have been a good challenge if I did other workouts, it just wasn't working for what I eventually wanted to do. This month I am challenging myself to work out 14 times. With my travel schedule, I think 14x is fair since I know I won't workout while I'm away. I am only looking to do 30 minute videos, which is very possible to do. If I do more than 14 times so be it, but my goal is 14. I know this will in turn help me lose weight faster which I would like to do. Baby steps!
My other goal is to not spend more than $50 a week at the supermarket and that includes formula. I will allow myself to carry money over from one week to the next, but this will be tough! I will have to be a bit more strategic with this. I do very well with coupons, but I feel as though I spend frivously while food shopping. I buy it because it's on sale and a I have a coupon, not because it's something we necessarily need. I think this will cut down on our grocery bill a lot. We really only need produce weekly. I stock up on meats when they are on sale. (I'm about $80 away from my free ham or turkey. Not sure what I will select.) I also need to do a better job of eating what we already have in the freezer. We have 2 freezers stocked with stuff that I can make for meals. No excuses to buy more stuff unless it's a necessity. I spent $43 yesterday so I'll take that leftover $7 and use it for next week, giving me $57. I only plan to buy 1 coldcut, milk and produce. We're stocked on cereal, yogurt, canned goods, etc. I'll have to find a very cheap corned beef either at ShopRite or King Kullen but I can hold off on that until at least the following Friday.
This should be a fun challenge!

February, a month to remember
I haven't blogged much this month, although we've had a lot going on. It's been a busy month to say the least and March will be just as busy. And nothing is better than planning to avoid choas and slip ups!
We started off the month saying goodbye to a family member. Kenny's step-grandfather passed away at the end of January and we buried him on February 1st. We had a major snowstorm that crippled most of Long Island. We only had about a foot by us and the city didn't get much at all. Further east had upwards of 3 feet. It wasn't Abby's first snow storm (her first was the N'oreaster that hit 10 days after Hurricane Sandy) but it was her first time I put her in the snow. Abby also had her first cold the same weekend as her first swim lesson and baptism. She did so well at swimming and seems to love it!
I got a bit lazy with my preplanning cooking this month. I didn't plan the week before so I didn't know what to cook come Sunday and when I figured things out, I wasn't able to cook much because everything needed to defrost. With this I also saw a gain on the scale this past week. Granted it was a .2, but still a gain when I want to go in the other direction. Hopefully this Friday I'll see it go back down again.
I've done well in terms of saving too. I've followed the 52 week savings plan to a T and will be depositing the money into Abby's account soon. I wanted to make sure I had a decent amount before making the deposit. As the weeks progress I'll be making deposits more frequently.
My monthly goal of not spending anything on extras went to the wayside. Since I didn't plan well, I ended up buying lunch 2x last week and need to buy lunch for today. I will have leftovers from dinner tonight to eat tomorrow for lunch. I also bought a Groupon deal for music classes for Abby and we got her a LOL Elmo. I did say she wouldn't get it until she rolled over though HA! All in all, I didn't spend a lot, but I wanted to spend nothing and I failed.
My 7 week goal of no meat crockpot hasn't turned out too well either. I've had no ambition to find recipes to make that are meatless. What I should have done is change it to a different day during the week or had the crockpot going Sunday so we at least had a meal done. I still have another month to make meatless meals on Fridays and I've already adjusted my next week's meal plan to include a crockpot meal that we will eat on a different night.
I've started thinking of some goals I'd like to do for March and will get those in order before I post them!

Happy Tuesday!
I have to say I can't believe that this month is almost over. We have only 8 days left!
This weekend was a whirlwind for sure. My little lovebug had her first cold. She just seemed more uncomfortable than anything. I called the pediatrician to see what we could do to help make her more comfortable and they said the basics - humidier, nasal aspirator, prop up her mattress so it's on an include, saline drops - all because she can't take any medication yet. I had a humidifier in the attic that I had used several times. I pulled it out and set it up in her room. Well it decided to make our fire alarm go off! Aparently our house fire alarm is super sensitive and warm mist makes it go off. (That was so fun at 3:30am!) Needless to say I went and bought a cool mist one the next morning.
After my running around that morning, we took her to her first swim lesson. She did really well and I'm excited for this weekend's class since she won't have her headcold. Following that we went to get our taxes done and all because of the energy credit forms, our taxes could not be submitted yet. Thank you Congress for waiting until the last minute to change things. So we have no clue when we will get our refund. We did learn that Ken was paying too much in federal taxes because he never changed his deductions to married 0. He was still claiming as single 0. This will lessen our tax return next year, but he will also be getting a big chunk of money in his paychecks. We much rather have the money now than wait.
Sunday morning was a big day for us since it was Abby's baptism. We got to the church around 10am and already a lot of our family was there. Following the service we went to the restaurant for a tasty lunch. It was a nice day. I'm so glad I planned her baptism for this weekend. We were both off on Monday which we needed!
Yesterday I was able to sit and relax in the afternoon for a bit. We did some grocery shopping in the morning and did well with coupons again. The total before they swiped my store card and scanned the coupons was $191. After it came to $136. I still never figure out how our bills are so high. We've been good about not buying stuff we don't need. I do know that coldcuts, produce (we get a lot), and meat are the bulk costs, but I don't always buy meat. We also did have a case of beer, but that would have only brought the total to $115. I did buy Allegra so $24 would be alloted for that as well. Some of my coupons included:
$1/2 Diet Pepsi
B1G1 Diet Pepsi
$1/2 Brisk
$.55/1 Sargento Shredded Cheese
$.60/3 Old El Paso items
$.60/3 Old El Paso items ecoupon
$.60/3 Old El Paso items Savings Star
$2/1 70 count or higher Aleve
$2/1 70 count or higher Aleve ecoupon
$2.50 fresh meat department
$.55/1 Friendship Cottage Cheese
$.35/1 Colgate toothpaste
I had others but don't remember them off the top of my head. I got toothpaste for $.31; Aleve for $4.99, 2-liter bottles of soda for $.40 each, Old El Paso items for $.20 each, shredded cheese for $1.40 each, cottage cheese for $1.40, etc. I didn't have any ibotta deals either. I know this stuff will never be free for me, but I definitely want to see an even smaller grocery bill. We'll see what happens next week.

Lots to learn with couponing
Knowing that CVS was offering a lot of ExtraCare Bucks on certain purchases, I decided to give it a whirl to see how good I would do. My goal was to spend the least amount of money possible. I screwed up and could have saved more, but lesson learned. This stuff takes time. This is what I went in for:
Spend $30 on specific P&G products get $10 ECB
Buy Colgate Optic Whitening get $2.50 ECB
I had coupons for:
$3 off one Gillette cartridge (included in deal) and one razor
$2/2 Pantene products
$1/1 Robitussin
$5 off $25 purchase
I scanned my ExtraCare card when I got into the store and got coupons for:
$1.50 off $5 shampoo, conditioner, styling products (not salon)
$2.50 off Colgate Optic Whitening Toothpaste
I put the following items in my basket:
Gillette cartridge (P&G deal)
Gillette razor
Pepto Bismol (P&G deal)
Robitussin
3 Pantene conditioners (P&G deal)
2 Cadbury eggs
I really should have read the info on the ECB a bit more carefully. I thought I would be able to do this no problem, but it didn't happen that way. I ended up spending about $32 out of pocket. I did end up with some free stuff, but I could have done better. I think my issue was that in my first transaction I only had about $28 toward the P&G ECB deal and the one Gillette razor was not included in that but I had to put it with that to use my coupon. My total came to over $30 and I used the coupons (Gillette, Pantene, $5/$25, $1.50/$5) which brought me to $26 with tax. I had to ring up the Pepto separately so I could get the $10 ECB. I then had them ring up the Robitussin and Cadbury eggs, gave my coupon and had over a $5 credit. I had to get something else so I wouldn't lose the credit so I grabbed the Colgate Optic White toothpaste and then owed about $.67 at the end. I used a colgate coupon but I completely forgot about the $2.50 off coupon I got when I scanned my card! So I could have gotten something else too. I also realize I could have gotten 6 Pantene items and would have hit the $30 and would have been able to use my other Pantene coupons. I didn't need the Gillette things, but got them because of the coupon. I need to strategically plan this out better for next time.
When I got home I had 2 ibotta deals and submitted those too for an additional $2 back. I plan to go back and pick up another Colgate toothpaste and get it for free. I got another ibotta deal for it as well for $1.50.
In the end I still have that $2.50 coupon and also received an additional $5.50 in ECB to use towards my next purchase. I'll see what I can get this week. I already plan to get the Barilla microwaveable meals since I have several $1/1 coupons.
Saving money like this is fun. I enjoy figuring this stuff out! We'll see what happens next time!

New Challenge for the Next 7 Weeks
Well this kind of through me for a loop. It's not one that I even thought of when making my New Year's resolutions, but well, here we are, Fat Tuesday. Tomorrow begins Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. Starting tomorrow, my husband observes the no eating meat on Friday's during Lent. Friday is my crockpot day. What on Earth am I making in the crockpot for the next 7 weeks? All of the meals have to be meatless and the majority of my crockpot meals (I'd say 98%) are meat. So this is my challenge. I have 3 more days to figure out what I'm making this Friday, then it's on to scour my slow cooker cookbooks to see what meatless meals I can make. I really have no interest in making the Weight Watchers lasagna and given I work from home on Fridays, I do not want anything fishy because the odor will be unbearable.
Anyone have any ideas what I can make this week? I can't get to the supermarket either so I'm limited with what I have in the house already, which is surprisingly a good amount. I have plenty of canned beans, some frozen veggies and some fresh veggies. Thoughts? Help!

Dropping one goal
It's been 10 days into the month and I have to say I thought I was going to do well when I created my goals for the month. When I selected the workout, it was actually a calendar from a previous year, so it was off in terms of rest days and such. I should have looked for one more closely for this calendar year, because there was one that I found a few days into the month.
I did the workout the first day, which was a Friday, then completely forgot over the weekend. I never printed it out, was just going by memory. Bad move right there. There are rest days so I would have caught up no problem. I noticed the error late Sunday night and immediately printed out the schedule so I would see it. I began crossing off the days as I continue to do them. I would have had to miss 2 rest days. After I completed the workout Friday, I realized this was complete garbage. Why was I even doing this? To prove I could follow something? It sure wasn't doing anything to make me stronger or slimmer. I mean let's be realistic. I wasn't doing any other exercise than this. And who would consider this true exercise? I don't need a calendar to tell me I can do 100 sit ups or a 2 minute plank. And chances are since I'm not regularly exercising, once I got towards the end of the month, the planks would have gotten much harder and I wouldn't have been able to complete the longer ones.
I could easily continue with this plan, but decided it really wasn't going to benefit me in anyway and I want to do something that will. I want to do an exercise goal and will find something else to complete for next month. Something that will be considered exercise. Something that will take me longer to do than 3 minutes. I will also plan it according to my schedule knowing Mondays are a bit hectic for me and that I will also be travelling for a few days.
I think my newest/revised goal for this month will be to better organize myself. I pretty much know my schedule for the rest of the month so I will do this. I'm not so much dropping a goal, just changing it to better suit my needs.

So long January! February Goals
Wow! January is over! Just under 3 hours to go and we're into February. I'd like to say that I've done pretty well with my resolutions thus far. However, some will definitely take a little longer to accomplish (like saving money since I can only save so much per month). But so far, they're going off without a hitch.
We have a few things to look forward to in February. My lovebug is turning 5 months! She's getting so big. It's also her first Valentine's day. I got her a cute onesie to wear :-) We also have her baptism in the middle of the month as well as her first swim lesson, well not that she will learn much at 5 months, but it will be her first time in a pool.
I've decided to create some goals to complete for this month and one will be super tough. I am hereby stating I will not spend any discretionary money for the month. No extra coffee, no lunch, no buying Abby anything cute. UGH this will be so hard! I also plan to follow this ab workout. This should be a breeze (says the girl who hasn't worked out since January 2012!). I'll have to post about this after the first 7 days to discuss how sore I am.

Superbowl Sunday
My team hasn't been in the Superbowl since, um, a long time. (Not to mention that this was a rough season for fans.) However, I'm not opposed to cheering on the other New York team. So I enjoyed watching 2 games within the last 5 years, especially since both of them were against the New England Patriots, who I despise. I think it's more I despise Tom Brady.
Now that we're coming up to this big day between the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers, I still have quite a few things to look forward to. I'll list them in order of importance to me - the food, commercials, and winning a box; and here's why.
We don't do anything special or go anywhere for SB Sunday, but I do enjoy making food to eat during the game. This year I plan on making buffalo cauliflower, baked version of deep fried mushrooms, shredded buffalo chicken, Skinny Girl's bloomin' onion and have some celery and carrots to dip. Oh and beer. Beer is very important to have on a day like this. I need to think which particular beer I would like to drink during the game. The food itself makes the game but the beer is very important too.
The commercials last year were absolutely great. Some of my favorites included M&Ms and Doritos. They had several, but these two were my faves - the dog kills cat bribe, baby sling, Chrysler is also very good with their commercials so I'm looking forward to what they'll be bringing this year. Some of the best from last year
I participate in SB boxes just like most other people in America. It's exciting and you can win some big cash! So naturally when my team isn't playing, I don't really care who wins and I want my numbers to come out so I win some money.
I do wish Budweiser would bring back the Bud Bowl. I enjoyed watching that when I was younger. There is also the Puppy Bowl which pops on during breaks. It's pretty cute to watch.
Just a few more days to go until the big game! Are you watching? What will you be eating?

Excellent Customer Service
Many people are quick to complain about a company that has wronged them, but it's very rare we hear of companies that provided excellent customer service. I had a very positive experience recently and sharing it as much as I can. I am hoping my story gets shared enough that people will take the time to acknowledge those stores that really care about their customers.
In December 2011, I purchased 2 hockey jerseys - one for myself and one for my husband. I only wore mine to the few games we went to and followed the washing instructions per the label. About 3 months after I purchased it and several washes later, one of the numbers on the back of the jersey had tears in it. I couldn't figure out for the life of me how this happened because the jersey is turned inside out and is hung up to dry. I was upset that my pricey article of clothing was now ruined. Thinking it was a lost cause since I didn't have the receipt to prove anything, I just hung it up in my closet. (It was the end of the season anyway).
Fast forward to this hockey season, which didn't start until a few weeks ago. We went to the game on Saturday so I pulled my jersey out of my closet. I completely forgot about the tears in it. I really didn't want to spend more money on another one because it really wasn't my fault this happened. I decided to contact Reebok (the manufacturer) to see how I can go about getting it inspected since it was clearly a defect. I sent off an email and listed all the details and included the chronicle of events since I purchased it. I was dismissed with a generic email stating that since I was passed the one year warranty, they couldn't help me. I followed up with a phone call not mentioning when I purchased it and was told I needed to provide photos, the receipt (or credit card statement) and they would evaluate it. But I knew because my CC statement shows December 2011 they were not going to help me. (Way to stand behind your product!)
I posted my disappointment on Facebook and a friend sent me a private message asking where I bought it. I told her I got it at Modells and she suggested I email the CEO because he is known for his excellent service. Later that night I googled him and saw he was recently on the show Undercover Boss. I immediately thought great, I'll email him and it will never get through. I found his email easily enough and sent off a respectful and honest note letting him know I've been a very satisfied customer for years and I have an issue with a jersey. This morning I woke up to a reply from him! He said he was sorry there was an issue with the product and asked someone within his team to help me out (I'm guessing she is the head of customer service). She called me today and located a new jersey at a location close to my office. I just picked up and have a brand new jersey. I am thrilled.
Modells really went above and beyond for me and I will continue to be a patron of their store. I can't express my gratitude enough to them. So, if you are looking for sporting goods, definitely check out Modells. They have great prices, products, and excellent customer service. You won't be sorry you shopped there.

Extreme Couponing
I know I normally don't do 2 posts in a day, but I didn't have the time yesterday to do this one, so I'll write about it now.
I normally do my food shopping following church service on Sundays. I head over to ShopRite in Uniondale with my list on the app my iphone and my coupons (both ecoupons and hard copies). Last week I saved over $20 with my coupons, but I also had a $10 off your order in baby bucks since I spent over $100 in baby items previously. However, this week I did phenomenally. I have to say in NYC/Long Island, it is very difficult to do any kind of extreme couponing simply because there are rarely any coupons (if any) on fresh produce and meats/seafood. This is where the bulk of my money is spent. My husbands thinks it's funny when I get excited I only spent pennies on certain items, but this is how well I did. Before my coupons were scanned, the total was almost $93. After coupons it was $76. Now, the ShopRite I go to doubles coupons up to and including .99. However if it says "Do Not Double" they won't double and you must get what the coupon states. I mean, I think that's only fair. A lot of the extreme couponers you see on television are able to coupon the way they do because their stores are much more lenient with coupons.
My awesome deals this week:
Barilla Pasta - on sale for .88 a box (not all varieties, but it did include whole grain). I had a coupon for $1 off 2 boxes of whole grain, veggie, or fiber plus. I bought 4 boxes of whole grain which came to a total of .38 a box for me.
General Mills cereal - $1.99 for specific varieties. I picked up the new Cheerios Honey Crunch and Fiber One Honey Almond Clusters or something like that. I had .75 off any Fiber One cereal coupon and .75 off the new Cheerios Honey Crunch coupon. Both coupons doubled. I paid .49 per box of cereal.
Wishbone Salad Dressing - $1.99 per bottle. I had a coupon for .65 off 2 bottles. My coupon doubled so I paid $2.68 for 2 bottles.
Frank's Red Hot Buffalo Sauce - $1.88 per bottle. My coupon was .65 off one bottle. This doubled and I paid .58 for one bottle
Coffeemate Coffee Creamer - The deal was 3 for $5. I used 2 coupons. I had one coupon for $1.10 off of 2 bottles and another that was .55 off of one. The .55 one double making it $2.20 off the 3 bottles. I paid $2.80 for the 3 bottles.
Bailey's Coffee Creamer - $1.49 a bottle. My coupon was $1 off. I paid .49 for the bottle.
Daisy Cottage Cheese - $1.99 for a tub. My coupons were .45 off 1 tub. The coupons doubled and paid $1.09 per tub.
I had other coupons for other things, but these were by far the best deals I got. I already have $1.50 off my produce purchase. I'm looking forward to see what next week's deals will be!

20 Questions
Ever have this toy? It's basically a device that can figure out what you're thinking based on asking you no more than 20 questions. I found an online version so I gave it a whirl. It asked for my age, gender and location (US) so I plugged that all in. I was thinking "pig" and it took 18 questions to guess it right. Start at number one at the bottom.
Q18. I am guessing that it is a potbellied pig
(pet)? Right,
Wrong,
